Costco Kirkland Signature Burgers Review - Costcuisine (2024)

Costco is known for minimizing the number of options they stock for each type of product, but they seem to have taken a different approach to frozen hamburgers. They offer a few different Kirkland Signature beef patties, so burger fans can pick their favorite type. If you’re curious about all of Costco’s different burger offerings and wondering which Kirkland Signature frozen burger patties are right for you, you’ve come to the right place!

If beef burgers aren’t your thing, no worries! Costco carries a wide variety of burgers like the Amylu Chicken Burgers, Dr. Praegers Organic California Veggie Burgers, Trident Wild Pacific Pink Salmon Burgers, Connie’s Kitchen Chicken Burgers, Beyond Meat Beyond Burgers and the Yves Ultimate Veggie Burger.

Location in Store

All four kinds of burgers, the grass fed, angus chuck, lean ground beef and lean sirloin can be found in the freezer aisle at Costco. Some Costco’s may only care one or two kinds of beef patties but all four kinds do exist.

The item number for the grass fed is 1304326, the angus chuck patties item number is 1322063, the lean ground beef patties item number is is 50846 and the lean sirloin beef patties is 296549.

Taste

100% Grass-Fed Beef Patties

Costco Kirkland Signature Burgers Review - Costcuisine (2)

I personally like these a lot because I like leaner meats. My husband found them a bit dry and lacking in flavor and I tend to agree they aren’t as flavorful as the angus ground chuck burgers but I still like them.

Costco Kirkland Signature Burgers Review - Costcuisine (3)

They’re definitely not as moist as the angus chuck burgers and also turn out to be smaller than the angus chuck burgers once barbecued. I notice a few hard bites in the patty but not many.

Angus Ground Chuck and Beef Patties

Costco Kirkland Signature Burgers Review - Costcuisine (5)

The angus chuck burgers are very flavorful and moist. They’re bigger than the grass-fed burgers and don’t seem to shrink much when cooked.

Costco Kirkland Signature Burgers Review - Costcuisine (6)

When I saw that these were ground chuck I thought there would be gristle or hard bits in the burgers but there wasn’t! If you want a flavorful, moist, juicy burger with a bit of fat, these are what you’re looking for.

Lean Ground Beef Burger Patties

I prefer the taste of the sirloin burgers but I don’t mind these cheaper lean ground beef patties! I did a taste comparison of the two by barbecuing a lean ground beef pattie and a sirloin beef burger.

Costco Kirkland Signature Burgers Review - Costcuisine (9)

The lean ground beef patties from Costco have a bit more of a stronger, fattier flavor in comparison. The sirloin burgers have much less flavor despite both being seasoned the same way. The texture of the lean ground beef patties is a bit grainy and I noticed some bits of gristle in the burgers.

The size of the burgers is also smaller compared to the Kirkland Signature Lean Sirloin Beef Burgers. The overall flavor reminds me of burgers you’d get at a cheap burger stand or mass community barbecue.

Lean Sirloin Beef Patties

Costco Kirkland Signature Burgers Review - Costcuisine (11)

The sirloin beef burgers from Costco have one ingredient, sirloin beef. Yep, that’s it. No salt, no fillers, no seasoning. The lack of fillers and seasonings isn’t a problem in my opinion because the patties use high-quality sirloin beef. Another advantage of the simplicity of these burgers is that you can season them to your taste. I add a bit of seasoning and sometimes some barbecue sauce as well.

Costco Kirkland Signature Burgers Review - Costcuisine (12)

You probably do need to season these burgers, because they’ll taste a bit bland if you don’t. I don’t taste a ton of fat in the Kirkland Signature Lean Sirloin Beef Patties, but there’s enough in my opinion. I’ve never found them dry (unless it was from us overcooking them!). Finally, I don’t think they contain as much gristle or random hard chunks as some other frozen burgers seem to. The meat is consistently good quality.

I prefer these over the lean ground beef patties. They’re a little less flavorful out of the bag, but there’s less gristle and fat for sure.

Convenience

These Costco burgers barbecue easily, you could also pan-fry them. Be sure to check that the internal temperature has reached 165 degrees Fahrenheit or 74 degrees Celsius to ensure they’re cooked thoroughly. Make sure to keep your burgers frozen and cook them from frozen too!

Costco Kirkland Signature Burgers Review - Costcuisine (18)

The burgers are not seasoned so you do have to season each pattie. I don’t think this is a big deal and I like being able to control what I put on my burgers! I would buy these if I were hosting a larger barbecue, summer birthday party, for camping or to bring to the lake.

Costco Kirkland Signature Burgers Review - Costcuisine (19)

The patties come in a bag and the patties are stacked one on top of the other with paper in between. If you want to just cook one burger for yourself, you totally can. Unfortunately, I have found the burgers can freeze together pretty badly sometimes. It can be hard to get the right number out, but careful yet forceful use of a butter knife usually gets the job done.
