Whilst control is not something I have ever sold, it is always an essential element of any project in the CI space. I found this particularly interesting as for some time now it has been apparent that "enthusiast" platforms like Athom Homey are dramatically increasing in capability whilst traditional CI control platforms like Control4 and Crestron Home embrace a more simplified approach. For $399 you can get an Athom Homey Pro hub which connects to almost every protocol, a massive library of prewritten drivers and their super cool Flow Programming interface - https://lnkd.in/d93epr6V When you look at these solutions it begs the question on how the revenue model of the future CI is going to look like. It used to be that that the consumer solutions were a bit rough to use and pretty limited but something like Homey is very much like working in a proper professional environment with very advanced programming actions - in many ways more complete than the typical names. There isn't going to be much margin on that $399 box though! I have always believed that control is there to enable the experience. No point having amazing lighting design if you cant easily select a scene and dont get me started on the idea of the sky not coming on when the TV starts! What can control add to the project other than working though? Selling pure labour on projects is always an option but tough to scale so what are the new opportunities? For me it will always come back to the end points of the system that add the value not the infrastructure boxes (beyond the very obvious need to work and be reliable). What new experiences can we bring to the table that help create these new opportunities? At SRND Group we are doubling down on experience across our areas of expertise. Day and date content for residential DCI screening rooms, generative a reactive solutions for video and lighting, distributed audio over IP supporting immersive soundscapes (this stuff is amazing) and beautiful interiors.
