Hello!
We're excited to announce that we have begun preliminary design for a Bed Wars content update. Everything mentioned in this thread is highly subject to change, and keep in mind that this update won't come out for a while!
► Where are all the Bed Wars updates?
Over the past few years we have tried to strike a balance between fresh yet familiar when it comes to Bed Wars updates, which is unfortunately quite difficult to do. It's now 2024, and Bed Wars is 7 years old. It's time we try and spice things up a little bit more than we have been up until this point with this update.
► So what can you expect?
Well as always, everything in this thread is subject to change. These are just our ideas, they can be tweaked, revamped, or even removed all together. This has happened to an average of 1-2 features we have talked about on these threads, so we're not kidding! That all being said, we would like to share what we are looking into for this update.
➥ New Gameplay
There are a few different routes we are considering for new gameplay and content in Bed Wars. Please let us know which one is your favorite and why you prefer it to the others!
Limited Time Events
These would either last a month or a couple weeks. They would either introduce a temporary new mode or change a part of the game in all modes. We could reintroduce community milestones (like what we did for the Slumber Hotel), but this time it would give limited time XP Boosts, exclusive cosmetics, and more.
Modifiers
These would only show up in a specific mode, which would rotate through the week (so Solos one day, Duos the next, Trios after that, etc). Modifiers shake up the core gameplay of Bed Wars significantly, and they could either be chosen at random at the start of a match, voted for in the pre-game lobby, or be set/pre-determined for that week.
New Dream Modes
We could also introduce new Dream Modes, although this would more than likely mean removing some of the existing less-popular Dream modes or reworking how they rotate. New modes we add would more than likely be wackier than the ones we have right now. changing fundamental parts of the game.
Out of these three routes above, we will likely pick and stick to just one of them for this update. We have a whole bunch of ideas for what new gameplay could look like, and most of these could fit into one of the three routes mentioned above.
Ideas
- Bed Royale: 20 teams of 5 players each. Massive map, longer games. Capture point in the middle of the map that earns your team a new ultra rare resource.
- Bed Wars Kabob / Kebab / Kabab: Each player spawns with a stack of Beds (a "Bed Kabab"). You need to destroy all of them in order to stop someone from respawning.
- One Block Bed Wars: No islands, only Beds. Each player gets a random block or item every few seconds. Wacky strategies and clutch moments are a guarantee.
- Perimeter Bed Wars: No more middle island. Earn Emeralds by destroying Beds.
- Bed Wars Randomizer: Random items in the shop get disabled, and some prices might change. Maybe some rotational items come back as well. There would be entire new p0cket metas.
- Classic Bed Wars: Only old maps and items. Would likely come in the form of an event.
Note: Stats would likely be tracked separately for these.
➥ New Items & Balancing
Introducing new permanent items is one of our biggest goals, as it has the possibility of encouraging people to play the game in ways they never have before. Ideally any new items we add would have a place in the game, be fun to use, and have a high skill cap. It's also possible we bring some things from the item rotation into the game permanently, and maybe we also rotate some items out. Balance changes are also on the table, although Bed Wars is in a pretty balanced state. Any changes we make would be with the intent of encouraging people to play in new and interesting ways.
➥ Major Slumber Hotel Changes
We are looking at making some significant changes to the Slumber Hotel. We want to extend it in both directions, making it accessible to Level 1 players and also extend it's content for veteran players.
Early Game Content
At the start, we want it to act as a hands off tutorial of sorts, reinforcing good habits and teaching the mechanics of the game. Over time, these early game quests will become more difficult and transition into the quests that currently exist in the Hotel. Our hope is that we can make Bed Wars a more accessible game that provides guidance for players who wish for it.
Mid Game Content
Our current plan is to keep the current iteration of the Slumber Hotel as the "mid game" portion of the hotel's progression. While it will largely stay the same, we will more than likely make some changes to smooth out progression and tie it into the new portions of content.
Late Game Content
The original intent of the Slumber Hotel was to act as Bed Wars' equivalent to the Angel's Descent from SkyWars. Unfortunately, the hotel does not provide content for as long as the Angel's Descent, and it can be completed much faster. While there are renewable quests, these cease being useful once you have every cosmetic from the Ticket Machine.
At this time we don't know what shape this new content will take. It's possible we add even more rooms, more intricate, difficult, and fun then the ones previous. We could also try a more traditional approach with an Angel's Descent-esque progression tree. We might also end up doing something entirely different, time will tell! Ultimately, we want to provide content that won't be completable within only a few days or weeks.
